The Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan is the main consumer of the network services.
It is for integrating of institutes of Ac.of Sci. that the UzSciNet network
was built. And now too, the Academy of Sciences takes an active part in supporting
the network and elaborating the strategy of its development.
The Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan was established in 1943 and is the highest
scientific institution in the country. It has 48 research institutions within
its framework whose activities covers 433 branches of science. All in all, the
scientific institutions are staffed by more than 7000 workers and 142 Associate
members. The institutes of Ac.of Sci. are under the direction of the below listed
Academy's divisions of:
physical-mathematical sciences
mechanics
processes of control and informatics
chemical sciences
earth sciences
biological sciences
medical sciences
history of language and literature
economic, philosophic and juridical sciences
Karakalpak branch of Uzbek Ac.of Sci.
Samarkand branch of Uzbek Ac.of Sci
Though the principal concern of the Academy of Sciences is the advancement
of the natural sciences and humanities, it is often difficult to draw the line
where fundamental research ends and applied studies begin. The Academy supervises
fundamental investigations in context with modern economical, industrial and
cultural development of the country, promotes studies of new technological findings
and the ways in which scientific achievements can be employed to practical advantage.
All the members of the Academy are elected and approved.
