UzSciNet network today

At present, all the research institutes of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan , a number of higher educational institutions, schools and various non-profit organizations have been connected to the UzSciNet network. Over 2000 users work in the dial-up moda, 15 local networks such as: National University, UNDP, OSIAF and others are connected. In all, more than 600 computers work in the network. The total number of users having access to the UzSciNet is more than 1000.

In designing of the network we took into consideration the following circumstances:

1. There are over 70 % of modern digital switch stations.
2. All the stations as well as a part of old analogue stations are linked via digital optic fiber channels E1.
3. Digital optic fiber channels are laid to all the regional centers.
4. The equipment of the same type is used, if it is possible.
5. The points of access should be approach to the users as near as possible.

When designing the network, we also took into account that switch stations in some regions of a town were not linked to the optic fiber ring or there were so few users so that it was no purpose to set up equipment in such stations. In connection with that fact we used both cable lines and radioaccess.
