1. Events and announcements.
• Finalists of the 3rd International Cisco Student's Olympiad on network technologies have been announced. A student Networking Technologies Olympiad has been conducted in framework of international and educational program “Cisco Networking Academy Program”. It is has been transformed to the representative forum of technical young student specialists, which generates interest of mass media and IT-society. For the 3rd Student Networking Technologies Olympiad there were 277 participants of leading Universities of CIS. 6 representative of Uzbekistan has become finalists of the Olympiad: Gulnara Musina, Rustam Gaisin, Olga Semyonova, Madina Gaisina, Nikolay Semyonov and Dmitriy Ronjin. These six students won qualifying round among 181 participants. All of them are graduates of Regional CISCO Academy of the project.
• A session of projects’ management committee of “Silk Highway” and “Occasion” was held in Bishkek. The representatives of TELENOR Company, a satellite communication provider of “Silk Highway” project attended the session. During the meeting participants discussed unstable work of the satellite channel. The majority of countries stated their dissatisfaction of the service quality rendered by the representatives of TELENOR Company. Subsequently there were raised questions regarding current situation with the “Occasion” project and programs presence for prolongation.
• A videoconference on telemedicine. On June 15, 2007 there was organized a videoconference dedicated to issues of distant learning education of medical employees. Representatives of Canada, Poland, Armenia and Georgia participated in the conference. Mrs. Abdullahodjaeva – an academician and a director of the anatomical pathology center of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Mrs. Tverdikova - an adviser on distant learning, represented Uzbekistan. As a result of the conference it was decided to prepare a mutual project in teaching of distant learning courses for doctors.
• Tech Age Girls-2007 project finalists declared. On May 31, 2007 there were announced finalists on the project forum "Tech Age Girls 2007". 100 applications were received from schoolgirls of high schools, colleges and lyceum of 6 regions of Uzbekistan. Qualifying was held according to experts' appraisals -participation in web, leadership training, online forums creating web designs and blogs.
Winners of the contest can take a part in summer consultation conducted in Tashkent from July 8 till July 22, 2007 where they will acquire profound knowledge in web designing and leadership. The finalists will have an opportunity to do a weekly practical work in the largest organizations and IT companies of Uzbekistan.
• Forums for teachers of Uzbekistan. On June 13 and 21, 2007 the project specialists organized 2 forums “Designed methods and a modern lesson” with graduates of distant learning course and with semifinalists of competition “The Modern lesson”. In forums there are participated more than 40 teachers of Uzbekistan. Participants shared experience in using ICT in their educational activity and outlined the efficiency of teaching and preparation lessons.
• New participants of educational project forum “Teachers’ workshop”. Central Institute of Professional Development for Public Education Officials named after Avloniy recommended 4 educational projects in June for participation in “Teachers’ workshop”. These are the projects of Batirova Nigora – principal of Kharezm regional School №32, Saburov Pulat-methodologist of Beruni School District Office, Suleymanov Ismail – principal of Bulakbashi School №28 and Koshimbetova Saodat – methodologist of School District Office. From the beginning of 2007, there were submitted 13 applications for participation in “Teachers’ workshop”: 4 – creating thematic websites; 1-developing a web page with the experience description on how one uses an interactive technique in foreign language teaching; 1-making computer presentation - general teaching experience on using projects’ methods; 5 - methodical materials in forming a teaching and a school management. Participants of “Teachers’ workshop” represent their experience on using interactive methods and introduce ICT to teaching and educational process.
2. Our trainings:
• 40 doctors from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan communicate by means of Internet technologies. On June 8, 2007 in the Andijan Resource Center there was organized a live chat “Opportunities of modern informational technologies in medicine” for doctors - participants of distant learning courses and representatives of Institute of doctors’ professional skill improvement from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The chat participants discussed such questions, as an automated doctors’ workplace (an administrative worker of hospital, registry, a patients’ card, database); using library resources of the Internet (scientific researches - the database analysis created under individual requirements); receiving seminar information via the Internet, participation in conferences, symposiums, professional forums and online discussions; carrying out of telesessions in a real time mode; consultation and a primary diagnosing through the Internet, a patient condition’s remote controlling and also distant learning training to improve doctors’ professional skill. More than 40 doctors from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan took part in the live chat.
• Ferghana schoolboys master their ICT skills and study English in a summer camp. On June 22, 2007 the Ferghana resource center organized summer educational camp for elementary grade students. Yunusov Jamshod and Tatyana Djachuk-the center graduates were the organizers of this event. The main purpose of the camp is to provide trainings for students on computer literacy, the Internet use and to teach English by means of special programs. The organizers planned to train 10 children within a month period. At the end of the summer camp there will be conducted a quiz which help to estimate efficiency of the given training and how successfully students understood training materials.
• A distant learning course for gynecologists. On June 22, 2007 in the Ferghana resource center there was held a regular distant learning training “Current issues in practical gynecology” for 5 gynecologists that has been lasting for 3 months. The training was supervised by Lyudmila Tverdikova- the candidate of medical sciences, gynecologist and adviser on distant learning training. In the training process there were considered materials about regulation of reproductive system’s function, questions of hormonal contraception and its application in treatment of some gynecologic diseases and also diagnostics’ approaches and treatment of a gynecologic pathology with application of endoscopic surgery. Participants from Ferghana, Andijan, Urgench, Djizakh, Termez and Tashkent not only have acquired a new knowledge, but also had an opportunity to share experience with their colleagues.
• Training program on Computer literacy for Medical employees.In collaboration with the project “Medical Information and Continuous Medical Education in Central Asia” and public organization Medicalexpress (http://medicalexpress.uz). There were organized computer literacy and the Internet basics trainings for group of 15 medical employees. Training participants learned to search information in the Internet and use it in their future medical practice. Gynecologists of maternity hospitals of Tashkent, Tashkent region, Tashkent Medical Academy and Diagnostic advisory polyclinic participated in the training.
• During summer holidays there was organized a training for students and teachers in the Internet Center of the project. Students of Schools No.225 and No.142 received training on “Basics of Microsoft Office Suit”. They start participating in trainings of “Basics of WEB-design, Photoshop and Flash” and “Lay outing HTML pages”. 7 teachers of school No.5 got trained on basic training in computer and the Internet use..
• Training on RedHat Linux. In June a new training on RedHat Linux specialization began for group of 7 people.
• Test center ECDL. In the Project Test Center Tashkent UNDP Office employees took part in the certification process and passed 40 exams. Examinations results proved a good IT-preparation of Head office employees. After completion of certification, applicants will receive an international certificate.
3. Integration of ICT into education:
• Activities of the Interschool Resource Center. In the beginning of 2007 there was conclude agreement on mutual cooperation between the management of scientific -educational network Uzscinet and Tashkent Institute of Professional Skill Improvement and Retraining of Pedagogical Staff (TIPSIRPS). As a result of this cooperation, more than 70 computers of institute have been connected to Uzscinet and Interschool Resource Center School Goes Digital was established. One of directions of the Center’s activity was to develop the productive plan of training teachers to use multimedia and Internet - resources for educational and self-education process. 24 teachers of various faculties of the institute have finished training under the program “Teaching methodology of conducting training on teachers’ self-education with use of Internet – resources”. The given training technique is developed by educational experts of Uzscinet network and it will allow teachers to learn computer and the internet basics within an hour by means of specially developed teaching methodology. On monthly base more than 500 teachers raises the level of their skill in the Institute. According to decision of the Head of Institute, 8 teachers made corrective amendments to their curricula in June 2007 by using computer and Internet technology. As of September, 2007 teachers of Tashkent will have an opportunity for a self-education in the Internet and a lot of teachers of the institute will join in this process.
• The newsletter for teachers of physics. June 2, 2007 Natalia Zubova, the teacher of physics of the Tashkent School No.7 prepared a newsletter "Useful pages about physics" for her colleagues (http://files.edunet.uz/newsletters/spec310507.pdf). It is dedicated to questions of ecology in a school physics lesson, to problems of ecological education and tests about biosphere. Now each teacher of physics can use this electronic bulletin as the additional manual.
• Internet - training for teachers of Uzbek. June 4, 2007 there was organized a training on use of Internet – resources to study Uzbek language and Uzbek literature in the Interschool Resource Center (IRC). Organizers of the training were Feruza Mukhamedova - a teacher of philology faculty of TIPSIRPS and Nigora Umarova - a teacher of Tashkent School No.300. Participants of training have got acquainted with many resources to study Uzbek language and literature. Within the framework of training Nigora Umarova presented her new site dedicated to Abdulla Kahhoru (http://qahhor.edunet.uz)) to Tashkent teachers. The training attendees shared their opinions with the site author and left their recommendations in the guest book of the site.
• A seminar for teachers of Uzbek language in Tashkent schools. June 7, 2007 IRC organized a seminar for teachers of Uzbek language of Tashkent schools. The seminar program covered Internet sites’ reviews dedicated to famous Uzbek poets’ and writers’ life and their creative works. Teachers have visited the sites of poetess Zulfiya, Utkir Khoshimov, Kodiriy, Abdulla Kahhar and Tokhir Malik Zulfie. During the seminar there were discussed an importance of the Internet - resources in studying Uzbek language and literature.
• Electronic presentations at lessons of Russian literature. June 11, 2007 in IRC together with a management Tashkent Institute of Professional Skill Improvement and Retraining of Pedagogical Staff (TIPSIRPS) orginised session on involving teachers in using informational technology in education. Daily dozen of teachers have become participants of multimedia trainings and media-teaching. Elena Sarokina – a teacher of Tashkent School No.300 conducted a regular training for teachers of Russian language in Uzbek Schools.The main objective of the training was to demonstrate various forms and methods of using electronic presentations in Russian language for teachers.
• Tutors of kindergartens - the first meeting with the Internet. June 8, 2007 Lobar Mirjalolova a tutor of elementary and special educational faculty of TIPSIRPS organized a group training “Multimedia resources for tutors” to raise tutors’ skill. Almost of all participants of the group did not have the basic skill of using computer and the Internet. The training attendees received a lot of information and learned how to use electronic resources in preschool education.
4. New resources:
• Temirov Zukhriddin a ninth grade student of Termez School No.3 made site “Kelajak Ovozi” (Voice of future - ko.connect.uz). The site is dedicated to Republican contest of talented youth of Uzbekistan.
Avezov Salamat a disabled student of Nukus School No.1 created a site in spite of his disability. This site is dedicated to Tolepbergen Kaypbergenov- Karakalpakistan poet and a Hero of Uzbekistan. (tqaipbergenov.freenet.uz)
Sodvoldiyev Tulkinjon a techer of economics in Bulakboshi regional School No43 developed site “Culture of knowing economics” (http://bulakbashi10.connect.uz/menejment/). The site is in Uzbek. The site auther introduces information about marketing, as well as management culture.
Berdikulov Nodir eleventh grade student of Bulokboshi region created a site about computing and communicational technologies (http://bulakbashi10.connect.uz/qurilmalar/). The site is made in Uzbek and recounts about main components of personal computer.
5. Technical support:
• Statistical data on network use:
By July 1, 2007 25 POP servers are supported - 11 in Tashkent and 14 – in different cities of Uzbekistan.
293 local networks were connected to Internet and 1472 users got access through dial-up connection. 98 domains of 2nd level and 312 domains of 3rd level are supported by the project. 19 servers have been set up and supported for hosting websites.
• In June downloads.uzsci.netfile archive was added with new useful programs and information: hardware and system utilities, graphical editors for Linux and Windows OS.
